Happy Birthday, Johnny Cash

February 26, 2009

(I decided to rip off Bert, who decided to rip off the blog post at theologica.blogspot.com)

Today is Johnny Cash’s birthday. I discovered him when I was 18 and found him to be unlike any musician I had ever heard – so simple in his music, so profound in his lyrics.

A simple “hello, I’m Johnny Cash” greeted me at the beginning of all his live albums. It wasn’t a catch phrase he intended to get put on the back of a t-shirt, but was instead a friendly introduction from a man who, like other polite Southerners, never assumed that others knew his name.

Here’s an interesting post about Cash, including an awesome video that Mars Hill did profiling his life and conversion. Below are a few videos of some favorite, and less popular Cash tunes.
