Well, it looks like John Smoltz will sign with the Boston Red Sox. I understand that Atlanta wasn’t giving him much of a salary, but could he have picked a worse team to go to? Probably not, unless he was playing for either team in New York. This is the departure of the second to last classic Brave, the other being Chipper Jones. In a couple years he will be gone, along with Bobby Cox, and the classic 90’s Braves that provided so many great childhood memories will be no more.

I’m hoping for just one more great run in ’09 where the Braves pick up Smoltz through a trade, resign Glavine, talk Maddux out of retirement, let Jeff Blauser and Mark Lemke also come out of retirement to turn some double-plays again, and get Leo Mazzone rocking again on the bench. Crazy? Maybe. But if John Smoltz is pitching for Boston, then anything is possible. Thanks for the memories Smoltzy.
